Storytelling Workshops + Innovation Convenings
Partners: WHU Otto Beisheim School of Management, Brookings Institution, Bernard van Leer Foundation, and others
Challenge: Leaders who want to have an impact need to master telling their story and find ways to make unexpected connections that lead to innovative solutions. But they often need help understanding how to create compelling narratives and breaking free of their "tribe" to harness knowledge across fields and sectors.
Approach: We have designed and moderated compelling and interactive workshops and convenings with a range of organizations:
- Coaching business school students on advocating for good. Joanna collaborated with the WHU Otto Beisheim School of Management on helping their students understand how to use research from behavioral science to persuade corporate leaders to invest in children's rights programs.
- Convening across sectors on solutions. While the director of WithoutViolence, Joanna led a team responsible for designing and organizing the Solutions Summit: A Multi-purpose Approach to Improving Children's Lives. The event brought together leaders from government, development, philanthropy, media and tech to collaborate on finding new solutions to help all children grow up healthy and thriving.
- Innovative financing for children. In partnership with the Brookings Institution, Joanna and the WithoutViolence team brought together experts in innovative financing for social programs and violence prevention. The convening addressed how violence prevention advocates could leverage new financing models like social impact bonds.
